Kari Hytönen 9th in RC4 class in his 17th Rally Finland

Kari Hytönens active rally career started in 1983. This year was his 17th in the Finnish round of WRC. This year Hytönen and his co-driver Ada Herranen had start number 89 with their Ford Fiesta R2. The result in this rally with 26 special stages with 360 kilometers was 9th in the RC4 class. It was almost like a win for Kari and Ada in the highly competitive Drive DMack Cup class with 23 starters.

The big start number meant careful start for the rally. The roads were partially very rough and much care was needed to avoid punctures or breaking the car and at the same time trying to keep same speed as other drivers with similar cars. The veteran driver had only one puncture during the rally. A mysterious problem with the engine management hindered their speed. This was later localized and fixed by the team. Still Hytönen praised the route and the enormous work made by the organization.

- After two unfinished Rally Finland it was very enjoyable to be able to drive almost without problems and to finish without using the super rally rule. It was also especially fine to see how well we could keep same pace as the drivers in the Drive DMack series. Ninth in class of 23 starters is satisfactory result and within our plans before the rally, Hytönen explains.

- During this long rally we had our share of problems with a puncture and engine management fault. When these problems were solved it was fine to really drive for result in the magnificent roads of this rally. My co-driver Ada Herranen´s work was again very good. The fact that fellow Finns Henri Haapamäki and Niko-Pekka Nieminen had podium finish in our class makes us even more satisfied with my 17th Rally Finland, continues Hytönen.

This rally was the main event for this season for busy Hytönen. Next step will be planning of 2015 season and being the driver's coordinator in the two remaining Finnish Rally Championship rallies.
